Breast Lift

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness, and begin to sag. 

Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts -- at least, for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.)

Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. However, a breast lift will not change the size or round out the upper part of your breast.

If your breasts have lost volume—for example, after pregnancy—mastopexy, in combination with breast augmentation, can increase the firmness and size of your breasts.

Will there be any visible scars?

The goal of aesthetic plastic surgery is to achieve the best result with the least visible scarring. Individual factors will determine the specific breast lift technique. Some patients are good candidates for "limited scar" technique. Dr. Pollard will discuss the options during your consultation. 

 

What risks are associated with a breast lift?

The risks and potential complications are those normally associated with any surgical procedures. Be sure to disclose your full medical history to Dr. Pollard during your consultation so that she can assess your risks and discuss them with you.

 

When will I see the results?

You will see the results immediately. However, settling and swelling will affect the final appearance of your breasts.  For the best results, you may be instructed to wear a support bra for a few weeks following surgery. It can take between three and six months before you see the final effect.

Will the results be permanent?

Over time, gravity and the effects of aging will continue to alter the size and shape of your breasts. Combining a mastopexy with breast implants can help maintain your new, more youthful profile for a longer period of time.

Dr. Pollard performs surgery at  Lankenau Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, or the  Delaware Orthopedic and Spine Surgery Center, a licensed surgery center noted for its high level of safety and professionalism.

I do not live in Pennsylvania. How many days will I need to spend near Philadelphia following my breast lift surgery?

Dr. Pollard would like for your to remain in the Philadelphia area for a minimum of seven days following your breast lift procedure.

 

How many years has Dr. Pollard been practicing in Pennsylvania?

Dr. Pollard has been in practice since 1991.  She moved her practice to the Philadelphia area in 1997
